Jeanette Free Blog #3

This is kind of a follow up to my last free blog. I'm writing it a week after I was baptized and confirmed Catholic, and after I received the Eucharist for the first time.

That night was so, so beautiful. I'm not going to try and describe everything right now, because that would be a much longer sort of thing.

The thing that kept hitting me, over and OVER it kept bowling me over as that liturgy went on, was that all of these transcendent, eternally significant sacraments were being administered IN REAL TIME. On a linear timeline. More than a few times as we moved on to the next reading (there were eight, so there was a lot of time for me to reflect on what was happening) I would think "one more reading is done. We're one more reading closer to my being baptized. Soon, I will be baptized. Then I won't be getting baptized anymore. Then I will have been baptized." Same thing with confirmation and communion. I couldn't believe that these things were just...happening.

Speaking of communion...taking the Eucharist for the first time ended up being the most intimate thing of my life so far.

Which is why it felt very strange to do it in front of hundreds of people.

I mean, I know it was only like 30 seconds.

But seriously, it was like having sex with the love of your life for the first time...in front of your family.

Think about it.
