This past Sunday was Easter Sunday, a
holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus after being put to death on a
cross. This is a holiday that I have celebrated for my entire life as I was
raised in a Christian home. This is the first year in my whole life that I
have not been with my family for Easter. Although I enjoyed going to another
family’s home and celebrating with them, it was still very different than what
I was used to. It made me realize that we so often get caught in tradition and
forget the meaning behind holidays such as Christmas and Easter. This was
something that always frustrated me about the secular world. These are both
holidays that have become more about giving gift rather than celebrating the birth and resurrection
of Jesus. I am realizing, however, that I am just as much guilty. Even though I
do celebrate Easter as a part of the Christian church, I often get caught up in
tradition and forget to remember the true meaning behind these holidays.
