“For God mingles not with man; but
through Love.” This quote was taken from the Symposium by Plato, the words of
Diotima; as I read this quote I began thinking of the Bible, but mostly the
stories in the New Testament. God, some people would say is Love. Jesus died on
the cross to save his people from sin; that is the largest act of love recorded
in history. Does God only mingle with us through love? I know growing up my
parents and others told me to treat others like you want to be treated, with
love and respect. Through love, we love our neighbor, which God asks us to do
in the Bible. One of the 10 Commandments are to honor you parents, this can be interpreted as love your parents. But what about the miracles that Jesus perform in the New
Testament; are those all acts of love, or is their a different explanation? If they are all acts of love, could another motivation be that to help people understand and follow the teachings of God and Jesus.
When someone calls another a
hypocrite, and the hypocrite identifies themselves as being religious and a
strong Christian, are they being called a hypocrite because they are not showing
love to others? Is the the main reason people are so quick to judge others, is that because they are not showing love and compassion that God has taught us through his works in the Bible? Isn’t one of the main ideas of the New Testament love? It's very
interesting the depth of this quote and all of the interesting questions and
comments one can think of to dissect “God mingles not with man; but through
Love.” This is a heavy quote filled with intense meaning.
