Luke Taylor: A Hidden Angel within All (Blog Assignment #5)

In the film, Wings of Desire, there are angels that cannot be seen but are certainly present. These angels keep watch over the people through their commitment, love, loyalty, sacrifice, and emotion. For example, at one point during the film there is a man who is on top of a building contemplating suicide. One of the angel’s is directly behind him praying intently that he would not jump. Suddenly the man jumps. Agonizing pain fills the angel’s face as he screams of sheer horror knowing that the man has just killed himself. That very scene inspired me and made me think of how in this world these angels do exist, and are people.

On Good Reads, C. Joybell makes a fascinating point saying that “man will dedicate his mind to finding what is good with the imperfect.” What is significant about her point being made is that there is some type of goodness in all of mankind, in every person. I believe that the goodness that lies within man is a hidden angel or a hidden piece of Christ in all of us. On a website called Cheezburger there was an experiment done to see what would happen if a person saw another one getting beaten up. When the person was being beaten up the people walking by stopped whatever they were doing and immediately ran to help out the person in need. That experiment proves that in all humans there is some good.

Furthermore, I think that the very good that I am discussing is a hidden angel within all of us. We were all created to want to see goodness happen. It certainly happens in many different ways but at the end of the day we want to go to sleep knowing we are in good hands. Because of the way we think and desire, the goodness within us transforms into this ability for us to want to help those in need; to want to be an angel to them. Some ignore that goodness and not much arise from it; however, it is still within them which is why they would aid someone if they saw that they were in need. Others adapt to this goodness that lives inside of them and they respond to it. By responding to it they become servants to their friends, compassionate to their strangers, and loving to all. They are hidden angels that can be seen, and they hurt just as much when they see their friends fall.

There truly are hidden angels within all of us, the question is this: How will we react to ours?
